Tony Alfonso

Tony (Antonio) Alfonso is the Director of Computing and Communications at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. In this role, Tony is the chief information officer leading the central IT team responsible for networking, telecommunications, administrative technology, application support, academic technology and electronic maintenance and engineering. Formally trained in software engineering and leadership, Tony has applied those skills in developing custom enterprise-wide software systems and implementing off-the-shelf ERP?s. He has worked at Evergreen since 2002, when he was hired to implement Banner Finance. Tony has held several positions in higher education over the last 17 years, including Associate Director of Administrative Computing, Sr. Systems Analyst/Programmer, Accounting Manager, Business Analyst and Associate Controller/Bursar (at Florida Gulf Coast University).

Prior to higher ed, he was a financial analyst with the City of Miami Beach, FL for almost 10 years. Buried within this resume, Tony was also Vice President of a successful family business (Florida Burglar Alarms, Inc.), designing, implementing and maintaining residential and commercial electronic alarm and surveillance systems.

Tony earned his Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (MS-CIS) from Florida Gulf Coast University and a Bachelor of Business Administration (in Finance) from the University of Miami. His current research interests include organizational leadership, project management and software development, operations and quality assurance (DevOps). Tony likes to volunteer at several non-profit organizations, including the Latino Youth Summit, sits on several State of Washington IT advisory committees, and was the 2014 chair of the Washington Higher Education Technology Consortium (WHETC). In his free time, Tony enjoys spending time with his wife and son and doing do-it-yourself (a.k.a. tinkering) projects around the homestead.
