Michael Northover

Michael has 35 years experience in IT and has held C-level positions for over 10 years in both the private and public sectors. He spent over 20 years with Merrill Lynch on Wall Street including two years as a global IT strategist. He has also worked in Mortgage Servicing, Publishing and Healthcare sectors.

Michael has been CIO at Portland Community College since 2016. PCC is the largest higher education institution in Oregon and has one of the largest networks in the Pacific Northwest, supporting 4 campuses, 6 centers and over 80,000 students. Michael’s focus over the past two years has been organizational alignment, IT strategy, driving portfolio management and enterprise architecture capability, and implementing a comprehensive cyber-security defense in depth strategy for the college. His current focus is ERP strategy, document management and workflow, the future of instructional technology, and data/analytics strategy to support the college’s YESS (“Yes to Equitable Student Success”) program.

Michael has an MBA/MIS (Management Information Systems) and is a certified Enterprise Architect. In addition to NWACC, he is a member of SIM, TAO, AEA, ISACA, and REN-ISAC. In 2019, he received his Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification and is now CIO/CISO at PCC.

Michael lives with his wife in the Portland area. He has had a lifelong commitment to playing guitar badly.
