Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is top of mind for many of our Boards and executives. Driven by real and perceived risks, IT is front-and-center in the ERM conversation. Our 2018 Special Topics Conference will focus on ERM in higher education: what is ERM; why is it important; how does it affect our institutional IT plans, strategies and actions; and, what do we need to do about it? NWACC Council members will hear from both internal (NWACC) and external points of view, and have the opportunity to engage with our CIO peers on the topic of ERM.
The program will include a keynote presentation by Doug Selix, IT Risk Management and HIPAA Compliance Officer, State of Washington Department of Enterprise Services, as well as member presentations by Sasi Pillay, Washington State University, and Chuck Lanham, Western Washington University.
We will also introduce a new feature that we're calling NWACC Tapas: a series of short, high-interest, topical conversations facilitated by NWACC members. Tapas topics will include:
- Next Generation ERP
- Next Generation Learning Environments
- IT Service Management
- Collaborative Infrastructure
- Machine Learning/AI
Download the agenda here. The program will begin with a reception and dinner at 6pm on Wednesday, May 30, and end at noon on Friday, June 1.

Hotel reservations for all attendees will be made by and billed directly to NWACC. Attendees will need to provide a credit card at check-in to guarantee payment for any incidental charges. NWACC will cover room charges for the nights of May 30 and 31; attendees staying additional nights will be responsible for those room charges (unless flight schedules make an additional night's stay necessary, in which case NWACC will cover the expense). Please contact Molly if you have questions about your hotel reservation.
Travel, Transportation, and Parking
Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. NWACC will reimburse travel expenses for all attendees. Download the reimbursement request form here.
The MAX light rail provides service from the airport and the Amtrak Station to downtown. Tickets can be purchased at kiosks at each station. At the airport, board the Red Line and deboard at Pioneer Place. It is a 5-minute walk from this stop to the hotel. At Amtrak Union Station, board the southbound Green/Orange line and deboard at SW 5th and Oak. The hotel is half a block from this stop.
Parking at the hotel is valet-only. We ask that members who are not staying at the hotel park at the Smart Park garage at SW 3rd Ave and SW Alder St (2 blocks from the hotel). For hotel guests, valet parking fees will be charged directly to NWACC.
